Visa for India
We recommend applying for a visa through the Travelers in India website, which guarantees a visa or a full refund if your application is rejected. Start the process about a month and a half before your flight to allow enough time for processing, any necessary corrections, and receiving your visa by email before boarding.

The form is in Hebrew, passport scanning is automatic, and your visa arrives directly by email — saving you valuable time and letting you start your trip with peace of mind.
Flights and arrival
You can book flights through sites such as Make My Trip. Arkia offers direct flights to Goa in October. You can also fly into Mumbai or Delhi — with Delhi considered an easier introduction for first-time visitors.
Domestic flights in India can be booked through dedicated booking sites. When flying from Delhi to Kathmandu, request a seat on the left side of the plane for spectacular views of the Himalayan ranges and Everest.
Money and credit cards
A Visa credit card (such as a Max Visa card) is the recommended choice for use in India, as Mastercard is less widely accepted and less convenient there. We recommend withdrawing cash from SBI bank ATMs, which are considered more reliable and widely available than private ATMs.
Bring enough cash in Indian rupees for your first two or three days, then withdraw more as needed during your trip.
Connectivity and SIM cards
You can buy a local SIM card at major airports such as Delhi, where many shops sell packages with data and calls (for example, on the Airtel network). Buying your SIM at the airport saves time and lets you get connected as soon as you land.
Keep a scan of your passport and a passport-style photo on your phone — these are sometimes required when buying a SIM card or signing up for local services.
Gear and clothing
For a trip of about a month without trekking, bring a travel backpack or an easy-to-pull rolling suitcase, leaving room for local purchases. Pack a lightweight, reliable rain jacket and warm clothing as needed for high-altitude areas such as Ladakh or Manali in September–October.
Use mosquito repellent in hot, humid areas. You can create a complete packing list with our India trip packing list generator.
Vaccinations and health
Visit a travel clinic about a month and a half before departure for personalized advice and a vaccination record, using supplementary health insurance to reduce costs. We also recommend buying travel medical insurance through suitable agents (such as Tal Erez) who offer comparisons and personal support.
Don't skip proper health insurance — the quality of medical care in India varies widely, and good coverage ensures you receive appropriate treatment when needed.
Travel between countries and destinations
You can travel overland from Poatika/Nepal to India via the Sunauli border crossing. Nepal offers visas on arrival, so there’s no need to apply in advance — giving you more flexibility when planning your route.
Plan your border crossings in advance, check opening hours and local weather, and make sure you leave before your Indian visa expires — you can check your dates using the India stay calculator.
