We stayed at Townhouse, a nice, quiet, clean hotel within walking distance of the train station. We booked through Booking that afternoon for around 1,000 rupees. https://maps.app.goo.gl/bzuDYJ7NuF1ZcPzv9?g_st=ipc🌿 Shillong
Rainbow Hotel - a classic favorite among Israeli travelers. 400 rupees per person, with an excellent location in Police Bazaar. https://maps.app.goo.gl/N3t5x14DM4urP9gH7?g_st=ipc Another option: The Homestead Bed and Breakfast - comfortable, spacious, clean apartments with a kitchen and breakfast. The owners are two lovely women who make you feel at home. 📞 Maria: +91 96129 04717 https://maps.app.goo.gl/GeqkVU8hXsuGEwZo6?g_st=ipc For the Double Decker Living Root Bridge, I recommend staying at Serene Homestay in Nongriat village. A great place with tips for trails and amazing natural pools nearby. https://maps.app.goo.gl/dLKMbsuu71VdNRQP7?g_st=ipc🏝️ Majuli
A beautiful, peaceful island in the world's widest river. A relaxed atmosphere and wonderful people. I recommend Risong Family Guesthouse - the owner helps plan your entire visit to the island, the atmosphere is excellent, and there's a nice restaurant on site. https://maps.app.goo.gl/4vesVqgPkB6oh7Ze7?g_st=ipc🌾 Ziro Valley
Highly recommend KKP Homestay - comfortable, clean, well-maintained rooms. The local family (from the Apatani tribe) were wonderful hosts and arranged a jungle trek, village visits and excellent food for us. 📞 Tag (owner): +91 81198 83655 https://maps.app.goo.gl/Xwv5EP4wuyQ7vKHo8?g_st=ipc An excellent guide for Ziro Valley and all the Seven Sisters: Mithci - well-connected, professional and helpful with everything (trips, permits, accommodation, transport). 📞 Mithci: +91 80140 12558🏞️ Bomdila
Tenzo Homestay – lovely, comfortable rooms and absolutely charming owners. Close to the monastery and within walking distance of the town center. https://maps.app.goo.gl/RGd5GdenFDgcxUuC8?g_st=ipc🌄 Chug Valley
An unexpectedly stunning place – nature, scenery and a distinctive local culture. We stayed at Taleries Stays – Cranes Nest: a beautiful, new two-story cabin, very comfortable for 4 people. The owners are amazing. https://maps.app.goo.gl/3QudnRexymWkKg369?g_st=ipc There's a lovely stream in the village for a dip. I recommend eating at Damu’s Heritage Dine – excellent traditional food. https://maps.app.goo.gl/pdXNiJLir42m58cZ9?g_st=ipc🏔️ Tawang
Highly recommend Kitpi Kee Homestay in Kitpi village (outside Tawang) - that's part of the appeal! A lovely family who treat you generously: rice beer, tea, momos, local cheese, and even shakshuka on one occasion 😊 Incredible views, a beautiful house, and options for pickup from Tawang and trips around the area. An authentic, comfortable local experience. https://maps.app.goo.gl/agivTLEgJobj6gNu7?g_st=ipc🏡 Zemithang
We stayed at Pangchen Homestay - a beautiful house with a special atmosphere, delicious food and a really friendly host who showed us a lovely natural pool nearby. https://maps.app.goo.gl/ZqCPh4DBcmuCn2jn6?g_st=ipc🛂 Arunachal Pradesh permit — important information
We arranged our permit through a local agent on WhatsApp. He sent us forms to fill out and asked for copies of our passports and visas. 💰 Cost: 50 dollars per person (there were four of us). The permit was ready within two days. We first tried applying online - it didn't work because the system required a local guide. You can also apply at Arunachal government offices (in Delhi/Guwahati) or at certain police stations. Important: you must list all the areas you plan to visit in your permit application — otherwise you won't be allowed to enter them.❗We selected: PASIGHAT TAWANG BHALUKPONG BOMDILA DIRANG ZIRO ITANAGAR JAIRAMPUR PANGSAU PASS MARGHERITA MIAO NAMDAPHA
In hindsight, we would have added Mechuka too - everyone said it was lovely.
